Clean Up Your Act?
Addiction will look different for everyone.
You don’t have to be drinking an entire bottle of vodka a day to have a drink problem, because the ‘problem’ is not actually the alcohol or drug itself, but your relationship with it.
If you only allow yourself a glass of wine a day, but find that you begin thinking about that single glass of wine at 11am, and spend the rest of the afternoon bargaining with yourself about when you can have it and how big it can be, that’s a problem.
Maybe you’re anxious about going out at the weekend because you don’t want to end up doing drugs again, but you know you will, so you begin advance planning how much, when, and with whom it will be acceptable. All the time knowing that you’ll ignore most of your boundaries when the time comes, but hoping that having them will make at least some difference.
It can take up so much energy that could usefully be directed elsewhere. How much longer do you want to waste time stuck in the same old cycle of I will / I won’t?
You might even be putting more thought and effort into your relationship with drugs or alcohol than you are into any other relationship in your life. Imagine how freeing it would be to use all that headspace up more usefully! If you’re a creative person maybe you worry that your addiction is part of who you are. Maybe a part of you thinks that without it you will become somehow less – either less able to produce creative works, or you’ll be less of what you think a creative person looks like. You might feel that your drug of choice opens you up, invites in your muse and fires your creativity. It’s not true. Give yourself the chance to really find out what you’re capable of.
If your relationship with alcohol or drugs isn’t working for you, it’s time to change it. Maybe you’ve have tried before and have found it difficult. Cognitive Hypnotherapy could be exactly what you need to help you make the change you want, for good.
Together we will find out exactly what it is that triggers your drink or drug use, and we will work to rid those triggers of their power. Along with that we’ll aim for a sense of clarity about what it is that you want to achieve and why. You already have it within you to make the change, I will simply help you re-locate that part of yourself that can do it. Book in for a call to talk about it more - there’s no commitment required and you’ll quickly find out whether I’m the right person for you.
How many cognitive hypnotherapy sessions will I need to help me manage my drink or drug addiction?
There is no fixed time frame in this work, but i would usually suggest working together for a minimum of three months, with sessions at least weekly.
